The organizing committee of the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games said Sunday that it started receiving applications from small and mid-sized enterprises for official sponsorships.
The committee said it decided to allow SMEs to participate in sponsorship arrangements at the games in return for marketing opportunities. It said such a move is being taken as demand for various items necessary to run the global event is growing as the start date for the Olympics approaches.
There are 30 categories of items that can be sponsored, including manufactured foods, security services and confectioneries. The committee is also receiving applications for donations. The amount of the donations is subject to further discussion, it said.
Those selected can use the term "official sponsor" and the official symbol in their marketing activities.
"So far, the sponsor programs have been dominated by big conglomerates, but we've decided that SMEs can join as well," it said.
Interested companies can file applications with the committee by Aug. 2. (Yonhap)
