SK Group chairman Chey Tae-won met with the visiting prime minister of Kuwait in Seoul on Tuesday to discuss partnerships, with the aim of speeding up its business in the Middle East.

Chey and Prime Minister Jaber Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah agreed on cooperating in diverse sectors including energy, chemistry, new energy and infrastructure, a company official said.

“SK Group has been partnering with state-run Kuwait Petroleum Corporation in various areas including crude oil and plant construction,” Chey said, adding, “We will find more ways to increase the partnerships between South Korea and Kuwait.”

Chey also separately met with KPC’s chairman Anas Al-Saleh to discuss detailed plans on the same day. Kuwait Petroleum Corporation, fully owned by the Kuwait government, is the world’s eighth-largest oil company.

Last week, the group signed a memorandum of understanding with KPC to partner in oil, gas and energy sectors. The two are expected to make further detailed plans on petrochemicals, oil exploration and new energy areas, the company official said.
