LS Cable & System's honorary chairman dies at 93

The honorary chairman of South Korean cable manufacturer LS Cable & System died of a chronic disease early Saturday morning at the age of 93, his company said.

Koo Tai-hwoi is the younger brother of LG Group founder Koo In-hwoi and was the last surviving first-generation member of the LG Group.

He had served in senior posts in the early years of the LG Group founded in 1907, and established the LS Group with his two other brothers in 1962. The deceased had served as the honorary chairman of LS Cable & System since 2002.

LS Cable focuses on cable, nonferrous metal, industrial engineering and energy sectors, logging 3.51 trillion won ($3.03 billion) of sales in 2015.

Born in the southeastern city of Jinyang, Koo was elected to the parliament six times and served the vice parliamentary speaker in the mid-1970s. (Yonhap)
