Samsung Electronics on Tuesday said it will roll out volunteer projects in Latin America under ties with the United Nations, adding it will introduce various activities by utilizing its capabilities in information technology.

The Korean tech giant and the United Nations Volunteers officially signed an agreement in Brazil earlier this week, where Samsung vowed to kick off volunteer programs through using the organization's know-how.

The U.N. Volunteer can also introduce a wider range of activities on the back of the IT capabilities of Samsung, they added.

It marked the first time for a Korean company to forge official ties with the U.N. organization.

Samsung first kicked off volunteer projects in 1994, which gradually expanded to North America, Europe and Asia. Every year, 170,000 staff members from 60 countries participate in the company's volunteer activities. (Yonhap)
