The number of South Korean mobile network subscribers is set to top 60 million by the end of 2016, industry sources said Friday. The figure would exceed the population of the country, which is at around 51.5 million.

The outlook was based on government data showing as of the end of February, South Koreans had up to 59 million mobile network accounts that include those for wearable devices.
Meanwhile, the number of combined smartphone users in South Korea was tallied at 44.1 million, up 267,446 on-month, while that of traditional handsets shed 150,965 to 9.66 million.
