South Korean builder GS Engineering & Construction is set to adopt a digital construction app to replace paper architectural drawings.

The builder said on Wednesday it has adopted a smart work system Plan Grid after working with the U.S. app developer PlanGrid for two years.

This app enables users to share around 5,000 drawings using cloud computing services and to modify blueprints via smartphones real-time, preventing confusion at construction sites.

GS E&C said it has launched the latest version of the app after conducting a six-month trial at the company’s eight construction sites, and the app will soon be adopted at the company’s 57 construction sites. Engineers will undergo relevant training to use the system.

“We expect to see improvement in work efficiency through smart and simple management of drawings,” said Ahn Chae-jong, GS E&C’s construction operation chief, adding, “We will ramp up efforts to systematically stabilize the system to improve construction management.”
