GM Korea and its labor union have launched a joint task force that aims to support the company in achieving its goal of double-digit market share in 2016, the automaker said on Sunday.
It is rare for the Korean unit of GM to gain cooperation from the labor union to achieve sales increase.

According to GM Korea, the task force will also include representatives from other areas, including domestic sales and government relations. It will have the authority to implement ideas approved at regular meetings to boost sales.
Jeon Young-cheol, vice president of Labor Relations at GM Korea, said, “Increasing domestic sales is the foremost goal of GM Korea for securing our sustained competitiveness. We appreciate the union joining us to help achieve our domestic market share target.”
Union head Ko Nam-kwon pledged to encourage members of the union to participate in the task force’s activities.
Since the beginning of the year, GM has put sales increase as its top priority for this year.
Major projects to achieve the annual sales target include an aggressive industry-leading marketing and service campaign with the slogan “Powered by Innovation,” led by GM Korea CEO James Kim.
GM Korea posted its best February result since 2003, with domestic sales of 11,417 vehicles. The Chevrolet Spark claimed the top spot in the minicar segment for the first time in six months.
