Samsung’s Lee Kun-hee top dividend earner in 2015

Samsung Group head Lee Kun-hee trumped all business tycoons in the country in terms of dividend earnings in 2015, data showed Friday.

The 2015 dividend income of Lee, chairman of Samsung Electronics, reached 177.16 billion won ($143.3 million), according to data by financial information provider FnGuide.

Lee, who has been hospitalized since May 2014 after suffering a heart attack, will receive 99.71 billion won in dividends from Samsung Electronics alone, the group’s flagship in which he has a 3.38 percent stake.

FnGuide, which compiled the dividend payout plans posted by listed companies until Wednesday, also said 20 businessmen will get dividends worth over 10 billion won.

Following Lee, Chung Mong-koo, chairman of the Hyundai Motor Group, will earn 77.29 billion won in dividends from Hyundai Motor and Hyundai Mobis.

The third spot is taken by SK Group chief Chey Tae-won with 55.99 billion won and Chung Eui-sun, vice chairman of Hyundai Motor who is Chung Mong-koo’s son.

Lee Jae-yong, son of Lee Kun-hee and vice chairman of Samsung Electronics, will earn 37.29 billion won.

Suh Kyung-bae, chairman of the AmorePacific Group, ranked sixth with 25.49 billion won, and Koo Bon-moo, chairman of the LG Group, placed seventh with 25.49 billion won.

No. 8 is Hong Ra-hee, Lee Kun-hee’s wife who owns the Leeum Museum, with 21.66 billion won from Samsung Electronics. She stood as the top dividend earner among businesswomen.

Shin Dong-bin and Shin Dong-ju, the two sons of Lotte Group founder Shin Kyuk-ho, who have been competing for group ownership, were ranked 24th and 26th, respectively.
