Kumho Asiana Group, the parent firm of Asiana Airlines, is expected to accelerate the group’s generational power shift as it promoted the group’s heir-apparent Park Se-chang, vice president of Kumho Tire, to CEO of the group on Friday.

The move will allow Park to take part in decision-making processes in management at the group level. The group announced his promotion in annual executive-level reshuffle.

The 40-year-old new CEO, the only son of group chairman Park Sam-koo, will jointly lead the group’s strategic management unit with current CEO Seo Jae-hwan, the group said in a press release.

He joined the group 2002 after leaving A.T. Kearney, a global management consultancy and then moved to Kumho Tire in 2005.

The junior Park’s return to the group has been expected since his father regained control of it from its creditors last year by reacquiring the group’s holding company Kumho Industrial.

Industry watchers said he would take a bigger role in helping his father rebuild the group.

Park was also promoted to CEO of Asiana Sabre, an affiliate that operates the group’s flight ticket reservation system.
