South Korea’s top mobile carrier SK Telecom said Tuesday it will begin a free smartphone rental service entitled “Enjoy Mobile Korea” for foreign tourists visiting the country. Samsung Electronics Co. and the state-run Korea Tourism Organization will also join the campaign, SK Telecom said.

Incheon International Airport (Yonhap)

Under the program, smartphones will be rented out for free to around 250 visitors per week arriving at Incheon International Airport, the country’s main gateway. The phones will be supplied by Samsung, while data -- up to a daily limit of 1 gigabyte -- will be offered by SK Telecom.

The phones will be installed with KTO’s VisitKorea app that provides various tourism-related information in different languages installed on it.

Visitors can start applying for the program via the KTO’s website. The smartphones can be used for up to five days free of charge. The program is expected to benefit around 12,000 foreign tourists a year.
