Aiming to boost its presence in the global business-to-business sector, Samsung Electronics has laid out a blueprint to lead the global air-conditioning market, pledging that it would achieve $10 billion in sales by 2020.

To that end, Yoon Boo-keun, Samsung Electronics consumer electronics business unit head, vowed that it would beef up the business for system air conditioners, or central air conditioners in construction markets, utilizing the firm’s capabilities in air-conditioning for general consumers.

“Samsung can fast narrow the sales gap with the front runners in the global market for system air conditioners,” CEO Yoon said at a press meeting during the Samsung AC Forum, a launch event for the firm’s new air-conditioning systems in Yongin, Gyeonggin Province. He vowed to expand global partnerships to achieve the sales goal by 2020.

Even though Samsung is said to take up 45 percent of the domestic market for system air conditioners, its global market share stands at a mere 3 to 5 percent, according to the company.

As part of the efforts to promote its air-conditioning technology and new products in the global market, Samsung will hold launch events for new products in 117 cities in 50 nations including China and the U.S. over the next five months.

Emphasizing that the new products unveiled at the event would outgun those of rivals both in performance and efficiency, the Samsung CEO also said that “bland products would do nothing, but only provoke price war between competitors.”

At Tuesday’s event, Samsung unveiled new system air conditioners including 360 Cassette, DVM Chiller, DVM S and DVM S Eco.

The 360 Cassette adopts booster fans ― instead of wind turbines ― which use the same air flow technology applied in aircrafts and wind power generators,

The circular, omnidirectional air-conditioning system which can be installed on the ceilings of office buildings blow air in all directions ― a much better way to control the room temperature efficiently than a square ceiling-mounted air conditioner that only blows air in four directions.

Air-conditioning solutions DVM, a cooling system for big structures and buildings, and the DVM S Eco, a compact air-conditioning product for mid- and low-rise buildings and houses, boast the industry’s largest capacity at up to 30 horsepower and 12 horsepower, respectively.
