October TV dramas feature trending actors

Yoo Ah-in to return to small screen in ‘Six Flying Dragons’ alongside Shin Se-kyung

Actor Yoo Ah-in, the lead star of latest Korean box-office hits “Veteran” and “The Throne” will return to the small screen this month. In addition, other upcoming TV dramas feature rising actors Nam Joo-hyuk, Yook Sung-jae and more.

Following is a roundup of the upcoming dramas that you can look out for.


Yoo Ah-in in “Six Flying Dragons”
Monday-Tuesday 10 p.m. on SBS

Unarguably the “hottest” male actor of the year, Yoo Ah-in set the silver screen on fire with a succession of hit-films -- “Veteran” and “The Throne.” “Veteran,” released Aug. 5, marked over 13 million viewers and is now placed in the top-fifth Korean film by sales volume. “The Throne,” released Sep. 16, is also steadfastly holding on to its leading spot in the box-office rankings.

In the upcoming SBS Monday-Tuesday TV drama “Six Flying Dragons,” Yoo will move to the small screen as Joseon era’s key historic figure Lee Bang-won alongside actress Shin Se-kyung.



Nam Joo-hyuk in “Glamorous Temptation”
Monday-Tuesday 10 p.m. on MBC
Premiering on Oct. 5

“Glamorous Temptation” starring model-actor Nam Joo-hyuk will follow MBC’s 50-episode grand work “Splendid Politics.”

Nam will act the juvenile part of lead role Jin Hyung-woo, who is a versatile sportsman with sharp acumen and suave looks. He will act out a heart-tearing first love with actress Kim Sae-ron.

The revealed plot of “Glamorous Temptation” depicts a woman who unwittingly enters the upper echelons of society and the ripples she creates.

Nam is also cast in next year’s tvN drama, “Cheese in the Trap,” in a supporting role.



Lee Won-keun, Jisoo, Cha Hak-yeon (VIXX’s N) for “Sassy, Go Go”

“Sassy, Go Go” is the second school drama by KBS this year, following “Who Are You: School 2015.”

Actor Lee Won-keun, 24, who debuted with 2012’s “Moon Embracing the Sun,” will play a head-to-toe perfect student Kim Yeol.

Jisoo, who acted alongside EXO’s Suho in the movie “Glory Day” as the lead, will play a tacit boy Seo Ha-joon, who suffers an anger-control disorder due to his oppressive father.

Cha Hak-yeon, better known as his singer identity N of group VIXX, will play a nutty basketball junkie, Ha Dong-jae.

The handsome trio is anticipated to enamor the younger female audience. 



Yook Sung-jae for “The Village: Achiara’s Secret”
Wednesday-Thursday 10 p.m. on SBS

Rising rookie Yook Sung-jae of K-pop group BTOB exhibited his potential as an actor in KBS2’s April-June TV drama “Who Are You: School 2015.”

Yook has been snapped up by channel SBS for the lead role next to actress Moon Geun-young in “The Village: Achiara’s Secret,” a thriller romance to follow in place of hit series “Yong-pal.”

“The Village” will be set in a seemingly average small town which quickly loses its ordinary facade with the unearthing of a mysterious corpse. Actress Moon, who acted the bride of crown prince Sado (Yoo Ah-in) in “The Throne” will play the young English teacher who discovers the body, while Yook will play a zealous police officer newly assigned to the village. 



Park Bo-gum for “Reply 1988”
Friday-Saturday 7:50 p.m. on tvN
Premiere in October, exact date undecided

Park Bo-gum, 22, had grabbed the female hearts by appealing to their maternal instincts even as he played a psychopathic murderer in KBS2’s “I Remember You,” aired between June and August.

In the upcoming period drama “Reply 1988,” the third in the “Reply” series, Park is anticipated to work up the warm nostalgia with analog love and friendship between the ’80s petit bourgeois. The exact role he will play has yet to be disclosed.
