Daum Kakao, the largest mobile messenger operator in Korea, set sail Wednesday with its new corporate name Kakao to be led by new chief Rim Ji-hoon.
The operator of mobile messenger Kakao Talk and Web-portal Daum said the two resolutions to name Rim as the new CEO and to change the name of the company to Kakao were passed at a shareholders meeting at the firm’s Jejudo Island headquarters.

After the meeting, the board members also approved the appointment of the new CEO and the change of its company name.
“For the past month or so, I deliberated over how to unfold the future of Kakao as I spent my time trying to fully understand the organization and communicate extensively with the members of the company,” said the new CEO in a statement.
“Focusing on the keywords mobile and connection, I will strive to further the global competitiveness of the company by bringing greater speed to the company,” he added.
Kakao also unveiled the new logo of the company on the day, which the firm said reflects global trends and embodies Kakao’s young and flexible corporate image.
