Rolls-Royce unveils ‘Dawn’ online

British luxury carmaker Rolls-Royce on Tuesday unveiled its new model, the Dawn, the “sexiest Rolls-Royce ever built.” 

Media outlets worldwide live-streamed the pre-filmed showcase on Rolls-Royce’s website and then threw questions to Torsten Muller-Otvos, the company’s CEO.

“Our new Rolls-Royce Dawn promises a striking, seductive encounter like no other Rolls-Royce to date, and begins a new age of open-top, super-luxury motoring,” Muller-Otvos said.

“It will be the most social of super-luxury drophead motor cars for those who wish to bathe in the sunlight of the world’s most exclusive social hotspots,” he added.

Inspired by the 1952 Silver Dawn drophead, the four-seated convertible shouts “La Dolce Vita.”

The body of the two-door car inherits the Rolls-Royce design principle of keeping 2:1 wheel height to body height, a long bonnet, short front overhang, a long rear overhang, an elegant tapering rear graphic and higher shoulder line.

But the grille is recessed by 4.5 centimeters and the lower front bumper has been extended 5.3 centimeters compared to the signature sedan, the Wraith, to focus the eye on the jet air intake face and to make the car feel focused, the company said.

The interior has separate bucket seats, and the wood on the tray surfaces is book-matched down the center console in a chevron pattern, while metal chaplets have been applied around the instrument dials.

One of the distinctive features is the Silent Ballet, where the car operates in compete silence in just 22 seconds at a cruising speed of up to 50 km/h speed. The twin-turbo, 6.6-liter V12 powertrain marks a power output of 563 break horsepower at 5,250 rpm and the torque rating of 780 Newton meter. The response of the accelerator pedal is enhanced by up to 30 percent, the carmaker said.

Rolls-Royce is determined to reach out to younger and more socialized people. By far it has worked: A total of four Rolls-Royces, each priced at more than 200 million won, were sold in August in Korea. “Motor show isn’t sufficient in showing what we have got. We will actively search for the younger generation to show our beauty,” Muller-Otvos said.
