Kumho Asiana Group chairman Park Sam-koo is seeking to revive tourism to Korea during his visit to China this week in his capacity as head of the Visit Korea Committee.

He attended a festival on a tourism exchange in Beijing on Tuesday and Wednesday to attract Chinese tourists to Korea, which is still recovering from the economic fallout of the Middle East respiratory syndrome outbreak in June.

Committee officials said that Park had put much effort into attracting Chinese tourists to Korea despite major business issues within his conglomerate, such as the acquisition of Kumho Industrial.

The tourism exchange was hosted by the Korean Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, along with support from the China National Tourism Administration. Around 500 people from the ministry, tourism boards and businesses gathered at the event.

Participants enjoyed cultural performances from both countries, and Korean officials promoted the Korea Grand Sale, a nationwide sale for foreign tourists visiting Korea from August to October.

Park was appointed as chairman of the Visit Korea Committee in July, and has been promoting the development of Korean tourism ahead of the “Visit Korea Year 2016-2018” campaign.
