GM Korea president and CEO Sergio Rocha vowed Friday to break the glass ceiling and encourage more women staff members to climb the managerial ladder.
“In accordance with the global GM strategy of nurturing female leadership, GM Korea has been pushing various policies to increase the ratio of females among workers and support their career path as leaders for the past 10 years,” Rocha said during his meeting with about 300 female employees of the company.

“The company will put all efforts in providing equal opportunities to women workers in becoming global talents. We have just opened an in-house nursery and many more are to come,” he added.
GM Korea has 800 female employees among 6,000 staff workers. The 13 percent female ratio is the highest among domestic carmakers. There are also nine Korean executives in the organization, which is a huge progress from none back in 2005, a company spokesman said.
The company has a women’s committee that holds regular meetings of female leaders around the industry, networking conferences and other events. Rocha also annually meets with workers from the company’s headquarters in Bupyeong, alongside the Gunsan, Changwon and Boryeong manufacturing plants.
