Girl’s Generation’s Seohyun has joined the Korean cast of the French musical “Gone with the Wind,” slated to open at Seoul Arts Center in January. She will star as Scarlett O‘Hara, opposite actor Joo Jin-mo as Rhett Butler.

“I wanted this role so much. I read the book, watched and studied the film several times and am now taking classical vocal training,” the starlet said at a press conference in Seoul on Monday.

“The other members of Girl‘s Generation were so happy when I got this role. They encouraged me a lot and told me that my image would fit well into this character,” she added.

It will be Seohyun’s second undertaking on stage. Earlier this year, she made her theatrical acting debut as the female lead in “Moon Embracing the Sun,” an original Korean musical based on the eponymous TV drama.

For Joo, who starred in the recently concluded TV series “Empress Ki,” the upcoming production will mark his debut as a musical actor.

“Rhett Butler is a character that I think every actor would dream to play,” he said.

Seohyun and Joo will share their role with veteran musical performers Bada and Kim Bup-lae.

Based on Margaret Mitchell’s novel of the same name and its 1939 film adaptation, the original French musical premiered in Paris in 2003.

The Korean production will raise its curtain on Jan. 9, 2015, and will run through Feb. 15 at the Opera House of Seoul Arts Center in southern Seoul. For details, call 1577-3363.
