Chung Kyu-sang, a law professor, will serve as president of Sungkyunkwan University from early next year, the Seoul-based university said Sunday.
“In a meeting on Nov. 6, the board of directors appointed professor Chung as the 20th president,” it said in a press release.
Chung, 62, will take office on Jan. 17, replacing Kim Jun-young. He will serve four years.

Born in Hamyang, South Gyeongsang Province, the incoming chief studied law at Sungkyunkwan, earning all his academic degrees there, including a Ph.D. in 1994.
He returned to his alma mater as a professor in 1989, after passing the national bar exam in 1983.
Chung held various posts at the university, including the dean of the college of law and the head of the faculty council. Since last year, he has been serving as vice president of the Humanities and Social Sciences Campus.
