The International Telecommunications Union on Monday named Min Won-ki, the former spokesman of South Korea’s Ministry of Science, ICT and Future Planning, as the president for this year’s meeting.
Min, 52, will be charge of coordinating the agenda for the three-week meeting, where officials and specialists from some 170 countries are expected to participate.
Min previously worked at the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, the Asian and Pacific Training Center for Information and Communication Technology for Development under the United Nations and the World Bank Group.
“Min’s experience will help expand South Korea’s leadership in global organizations and also help local firms tap overseas markets,” an official from the ICT ministry said. (Yonhap)
