South Korea's female fencing squad captured silver in the epee team event at the Asian Games Thursday, but the the men's foil team ended up winning bronze.

The team of Choi In-jeong, Kim Myoung-sun, Choi Eun-sook and Shin A-lam was beaten by China's Xu Anqi, Sun Yujie and Sun Yiwen 43-19 in the gold-medal decider on the women's epee team at Goyang Gymnasium, north of the host city.

South Korea failed to overcome the Chinese team in the return match after the 2012 London Olympics, where it had lost to the rival and also ended up with silver.

China thrust South Korea from the beginning, as its first fighter Xu Anqi outscored Choi In-jeong 5-2 in the first round to give her country an early lead.

Shin A-lam earned four points to trail 7-6, but it was South Korea's last threat.

Allowing only eight points to the next five fencers, China widened the lead to 29-14 and the anchor, Sun Yujie, scored 14 to seal the game at 43-19.

In the men's foil team event, South Korea walked home with a bronze medal after losing to Japan 45-29 in the semis. There are no bronze medal contests in fencing, and the two losers of the semis both get bronze medals.

Wrapping up the fencing competition at the Incheon Asiad, South Korea bagged a record eight gold medals, along with six silvers and three bronzes. (Yonhap)
