인도 소년이 턱 통증으로 인해 치과를 방문했다가 232개의 치아를 발치했다고 UPI가 보도했다.
소년은 단순한 턱 통증 및 붓기라고 생각하여 치과를 방문했지만 의사들은 충격에 휩싸였다. 소년의 입속에는 230개의 넘는 치아가 있었기 때문이었다.
6시간에 걸쳐 232개의 치아를 뽑는데 성공하였고 치아종 (complex composite odontoma) 진단을 받았다. 이는 하나의 잇몸이 여러개의 치아를 형성하는 현상이다. 일종의 양성종양이라고 할 수 있다.
처음에는 치아를 그냥 뺄 수 없어 끌과 망치를 동원하여 치아를 뽑아야 했다고 의사들은 전했다. 그들은 또한 이렇게 많은 치아를 본적이 없기에 기네스북에 알려 줄 계획이라고 한다.
처음에 치아를 뽑을 때 작은 하얀 구슬처럼 생긴 치아들이 끊임없이 나왔다. 너무 많은 치아가 나와서 일일이 세는 것이 벅찼지만 총 232개의 치아를 뽑아냈다고 담당 의사들이 전했다.
17세 소년은 이제 치아가 28개의 정상적인 치아가 있으며 232개의 치아들이 발치되지 않았더라면 소년의 턱이 망가질 수 있었다고 한다.

232 teeth removed from mouth of 17-year-old Indian boy
When an Indian boy went in for dental surgery after complaining of pain and swelling in his jaw, surgeons were shocked to find that his mouth was packed with more than 230 teeth.
After six hours of surgery, doctors at J.J. Hospital were able to extract 232 teeth from the mouth of 17-year-old Ashiq Gavai.
“Ashik‘s malaise was diagnosed as a complex composite odontoma where a single gum forms lots of teeth. It’s a sort of benign tumor,” Dr. Sunanda Dhiware, the head of J.J.‘s dental department, told the BBC. “At first, we couldn’t cut it out so we had to use the basic chisel and hammer to take it out.”
There were so many teeth in Gavai‘s mouth that the hospital plans on contacting the Guinness Books of World Records.
“Once we opened it, little pearl-like teeth started coming out, one-by-one. Initially, we were collecting them, they were really like small white pearls. But then we started to get tired. We counted 232 teeth,” Dhiware said. According to doctors, the young man now has a full set of 28 teeth.
If the surgery had not been performed, it’s possible that the tumor-like growth would have broken Gavai‘s jaw. (UPI)
