South Korean pop superstar BoA’s English-language debut film has been exported to 54 countries around the world, the film’s local production company said Thursday.

Directed by Duane Adler, best known for his dance-centric, youth-driven screenplays for “Save the Last Dance” and the “Step Up” films, “Make Your Move” is a South Korea-U.S. co-production about a man and a woman from different backgrounds who come to understand each other and fall in love through dance.

“The movie was sold to 54 countries, including France, Germany, Australia and the Czech Republic, during the Cannes international film festival and other events,” CJ E&M Co. said in a release. “The combined sales have surpassed more than $6.3 million.”

The female dancer was portrayed by the K-pop singer BoA in her first lead role on a big screen and in an English-language film while her male counterpart was played by Derek Hough, an American dancer best known for winning the U.S. television dance-competition series “Dancing with the Stars” five times.

Co-produced by South Korea’s CJ E&M and SM Entertainment, and Robert Cort Productions of the U.S., the film is set to open in local theaters next Thursday and in U.S. theaters the next day.

Before its U.S. and South Korean releases, the movie has already opened in 14 countries, including Belgium, the Netherlands and Vietnam. (Yonhap)
