(onlinenews@heraldcorp.com)

'Avengers 2' filming snarls morning traffic in Seoul

Shooting of the sequel to the Hollywood film "The Avengers" continued in Seoul Wednesday, disrupting traffic as one of the capital's major roads was completely restricted.

The World Cup buk-ro -- a road that runs through Sangam-dong in western Seoul -- was closed in both directions to accommodate filming crews of "Avengers: Age of Ultron."

The second round of shooting, which began around 6 a.m.

Wednesday and is expected to continue until Friday, left thousands of commuters hassled.

Drivers who regularly use the road had to find an alternate route, and a total of 16 buses that pass through the location were rerouted during morning rush hours.

The shooting in South Korean capital first began on Sunday when the crew worked all day on one of the bridges over the Han River which runs through the heart of Seoul.

Dozens of fans and reporters wanting to get a sneak peak gathered at Mapo Bridge, which was completely blocked off and heavily guarded by film crews and security guards.

The shooting will continue sporadically until April 13, according to police, adding that the Gangnam Subway Station intersection and Cheongdam Grand Bridge in southern Seoul, and the Saebit Dungdungseom floating islets will also be restricted.

Joss Whedon, the director of the blockbuster, had earlier issued an apology to Seoul citizens for the potential trouble from shooting a portion of the film.

The new installment returns with its iconic cast, including Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, Chris Evans and Scarlett Johansson. The sequel is set for release in the United States on May 1, 2015 and in South Korea a month later. (Yonhap)
