40대 알몸 ‘모글리男’, 나무 타다 징역

전라의 40대 남성이 나무 위에 보금자리를 짓겠다고 나무에 올라갔다가 인근 주민의 신고로 연행된 뒤 법정에서 음란죄로 유죄판결을 받았다.

경찰은 애초에 야생 동물이 나무의 약 12.2 미터 높이까지 올라갔다가 내려오지 못하고 있으니 구출해달라는 제보를 받고 출동했다가, 나체의 중년 남성인 것을 확인하고 경악한 것으로 알려졌다.

지난 25일 현지 보도에 따르면, 연행된 마이클 하워드 롱(40)의 행위는 마치 정글북에 나오는 야생 삶에 동화돼 자란 남주인공, 모글리와 흡사한 형태로, 경찰은 이 사건에 마약이 연루됐을 공산이 높다며 강도 높은 수사를 벌인 바 있다.

신고를 받고 출동한 쉐인 워시본 수사관은 “(롱이) 나무에 보금자리를 꾸미기 위해 터를 닦고 있었을 뿐이라고 반복해 주장했다”고 현지 언론인 WAFF TV에 밝혔다.

롱은 나무에서 내려가기를 거부하며 한 시간 넘게 경찰과 대치했으나, 종국에는 사다리차를 타고 안전하게 지상으로 내려왔다.

롱은 공공음란죄와 풍기문란죄 혐의로 기소됐으나 공공음란죄만 인정이 되어, 지난 24일 애럽 시티 구치소에 수감됐다.

Naked Alabama man tells police he's making tree 'his home' after climbing 40 feet up

When police and fire crews arrived at an Alabama home to rescue a wild creature from a tree, it didn’t turn out to be a cat.

During an incident that police called “drug-related,” 40-year-old Michael Howard Long of Arab, Ala., climbed a tree at his home early Saturday morning while nude.

Long was about 40 feet up in the tree when police officers and firefighters arrived on the scene. Responders were surprised with his reason.

"Basically, all he would tell the officers was he was cleaning the tree up and was going to make it his home," assistant police chief Shane Washburn told WAFF.

After more than an hour of negotiating, Long finally agreed to come down and safely rode to the ground in a bucket truck.

Long was charged with public lewdness and disorderly conduct and taken to Arab City Jail. He pleaded guilty to the public lewdness charge in municipal court on Monday and the disorderly conduct charge was dismissed. (UPI)
