소두증이란 무엇일까?

최근 한 포털사이트서 소두증이란 무엇인가에 대한 설명의 글이 올라와 이목을 끌고 있다.

소두증이란 얼굴 크기는 정상이나 머리뼈가 지나치게 작은 경우를 가리킨다. 선척적으로 작은 머리뼈를 타고 났으며 머리 둘레가 약 48cm 이하면 소두증에 해당된다.

설명에 따르면 소두증이 심할 경우 정신박약 정도의 정신지체 증상을 보이는 경우도 있다.

머리가 작을수록 호감형으로 꼽히는 요즘 이 같은 소식은 충격이 아닐 수가 없다.

Small head size adversely affects brain function

Having an abnormally small head could lead to developmental disabilities, according to an article that was posted on a Korean portal site Monday.

Microcephaly is a condition in which the brain doesn’t grow to its full size. The neurodevelopmental disorder is often defined as a head circumference of less than 48 centimeters.

While a small head is glorified in Korean society, microcephaly could lower life expectancy and can be accompanied by intellectual disabilities.
