Kumho Tires said Thursday that the company won Germany’s iF Design Award in the category of product design with its high-performance tires, the ECSTA PS91 and the ECSTA HS51.

Designed to be equipped on high-performance super cars, both tires have checkered flag logos on their tread patterns and sidewalls and other design features that boast dynamism and sportiness, the company said.

The iF Design Award carries 60 years of prestige and tradition and is regarded as one of world’s most renowned international exhibitions, along with the Red Dot Design Award and the IDEA Design Award.

Kumho has already won various design awards in the past few years ― the iF Design Award in 2010 and 2012 and the Red Dot Design Award for two consecutive years from 2012 ― and is consistently improving its design competitiveness as a result.

“Winning the iF Design Award this year provided the opportunity to be globally recognized for our design capacity and innovation once again,” said Sohn Bong-young, Kumho Tires’ head of R&D division.

“As much as a tire’s design influences its performance, we will make persistent efforts to strengthen our design technologies and develop differentiated products,” he added.
