Military denies report on lifting entry ban on singer Yoo
South Korea’s military agency denied reports that singer Yoo Seung-jun’s 12-year prohibition of entry into the country would be soon lifted.
An official at the Office of Military Manpower Administration said the withdrawal of the ban will “never be allowed.”
“We won’t review the ban on Yoo as he violated the military service law,” the official said on Wednesday.
The 35-year-old singer was deported for dodging mandatory military service in 2002 after he gained U.S. citizenship just ahead of his conscription.
A local media outlet reported Wednesday that the singer is set to make a comeback in Korea as early as the first half of 2014, citing an unnamed source close to the singer.
“The entry ban on Yoo will be lifted this month. He is making plans for a comeback before the first half of the year with the help of his agency, JC Group International, which is run by CEO Jackie Chan,” the source was quoted as saying.
Since his debut in 1997, Yoo earned massive fame with a string of hit songs including “Nightmare” and “Na Na Na.”
Currently, he is continuing his career in China as a singer and actor. He made his movie debut in Jackie Chan’s “Little Big Soldier” in 2010.
