Jeju United of South Korea’s top division soccer league said Friday it will send Ryu Seung-woo to Bundesliga’s Bayer Leverkusen for one year on a loan.

“We decided to send Ryu Seung-woo to Leverkusen in order to promote his growth as a player,” the club said on Ryu’s loan to the German club.

Ryu will depart for Germany on Monday.

The 20-year-old player is considered one of the top prospects in the country, having scored two goals for South Korea during the Under-20 World Cup in Turkey in July. He reportedly received offers from several European teams, but insisted on playing for a K League team first.

“It was not an easy decision, but it was done for the development of South Korean soccer and the player (Ryu),” an official from Jeju United said.
