Hana Financial Group is spuring its social contribution activities at home and abroad, vowing to widen its profit sharing with local communities in need.

Since 2011, the financial group has observed Nov. 11 as “Modu Hana Day,” or the day of unity, setting out for its annual two-month community service campaign, “Modu Hana Campaign.”

“The campaign aims at making social contribution a casual habit for us all, eventually leading to a healthy company and community,” said Kim Jung-tai, the group chairman and chief executive.

Chairman Kim added that this year’s Modu Hana Campaign would go beyond borders to China, Indonesia, Vietnam, Hong Kong, the United States and Europe.

This year’s campaign consists of three categories that each promotes unity with the neighbors, colleagues and the global communities. About 25,000 employees of Hana Financial and its affiliates participated in the campaign.

The neighbor program invites customers to join in monthly community service. Multicultural families and foreign volunteers also took part in the program.

In the unity with the neighbor program, a total of 1,100 employees and their families of Hana Financial and affiliates gathered in Chungcheong, Gyeongsang and Jeolla provinces to make winter kimchi for more than 1,000 low-income households.

The unity with colleagues program involves sharing of great social contribution ideas and anecdotes with the colleagues. Building more kindergartens for the employees is another part of the project, the group spokesperson said.

The unity with the global communities includes “Happy Sharing,” a project to donate school supplies and toys to the needy children from 11 foreign countries.

Hana Financial noted that its two subsidiary banks, Hana Bank and the Korea Exchange Bank, have carried out active sharing projects with the Chinese communities through their local operations.

On Sept. 17, the Chinese operations of Hana Bank and the KEB donated computers, drawing supplies and books to Yanjing Little Swan Charity Primary School in Beijing. The two operation heads said that providing decent educational environment was essential in giving equal opportunities to every child.

In December 2012, the two banks also launched a large-scale donation and volunteer program in a rural region in Lanfang, Hebei province. Daily necessities such as school supplies, rice, oil, salt and fertilizer products were delivered to the residents in need.

Hana Bank also organized an independent volunteer project for a public orphanage in Taiyangcun, Beijing, in June 2012.
