Installation artist Suh Do Ho won the prestigious Red Dot design award for his video installation “Who Am We,” according to his studio on Wednesday.
Suh won the Best of the Best Award in the category of TV, film, cinema and animation at the Red Dot Awards in July, as well as the IDEA bronze award and the gold award at the Busan International Advertising Festival this year for the same work.
The interactive video installation features hundreds of portraits of employees at Hyundai Motor Group, whose pictures appear as tiny dots on the surface, but become enlarged when viewed on a smartphone application.
“The highly interactive installation embodies a wonderful integration of the employees into the company’s media processes and thus strengthens both their identities and the corporate identity. ‘Who Am We?’ is marked by a highly interesting design solution and a technically complex implementation,” the jury statement said.
According to the Suh Do Ho Studio, Suh encouraged 218,000 employees at Hyundai Motor Group to submit their portraits for the video installation, which is on permanent display at Hyundai Motor Group’s human resources development center.
Suh was also named Art Innovator for 2013 by the Wall Street Journal, which recognizes leading figures in art, architecture, design, entertainment, fashion, charity and technology.
