Sony Korea received an award on Tuesday from the Ministry of Environment in the area of green management, consumption and production at the Eco-Expo Korea held in Seoul.

The award ceremony aims to foster eco-friendly industry by giving a prize to organizations that have contributed to the advancement of green technology and management.

Sony Korea said it has run a sustainable management system since acquiring an environment management system certificate in 2000. The company has also introduced Life Cycle Assessment ― a technique to assess the environmental impacts associated with all the stages of a product’s life ― and eco design for the environment assessment of its products.

“Sustainable management is considered very important within the Sony Group,” Sony Korea CEO Kenji Sakai said. “In line with Sony’s environmental plan ‘Road to Zero,’ we will continue to improve green management in Korea.”

In April 2010, Sony announced a new global environment plan “Road to Zero,” consisting of the Sony Group Environmental Vision and several sets of mid-term environmental targets.

Sony Korea official Lee Do-young said it has also built a program where its green management activities can be shared with diverse parties like the government, civic groups, schools and clients.

An Environment Ministry official said, “We hope this event and ceremony will help to spread the green life-style nationwide.”

Under the theme of “Go Green, Be Green!,” Eco-Expo Korea offered a venue for 230 companies to unveil their eco-friendly products, technology, energy, construction, retail and services.
