French cosmetics company L’Oréal hosted its third “Ethics Day” on Tuesday to remind its employees around the world of the importance of ethical business practices.

The event allowed employees to have an informal conversation with the group CEO and regional branch president about ethical issues, company officials said.

This year, the four principles of integrity, respect, courage and transparency were designated as markers for ethical practice and employees’ decision-making.

Through a web chat system, employees in the Korean office were able to talk with Jean-Paul Agon, chairman and CEO of the group, and Richard Cymberg, president of L’Oréal Korea. They were able to raise any issues related to ethics anonymously.

“L’Oréal believes a firm ethical guideline is the basis for the group’s efforts to implement innovation, environment policies and social responsibility,” said Cymberg. He added, “Apart from the Ethics Day, we also operate an ethics hotline where opinions on business ethics can be put forward to the ethics correspondents at any time.”

The group was selected as one of the World’s Most Ethical Companies in 2013 by Ethisphere institute, an international think-tank for business ethics.
