A throwing error by Tampa Bay reliever Fernando Rodney allowed Los Angeles to score the winning run in the bottom of the ninth inning, giving the Dodgers an improbable 7-6 victory over Tampa Bay on Friday.
The defeat meant the Rays failed to capitalize on a chance to move back within half a game of the American League East following Boston's loss to Kansas City, with the Royals scoring six runs in the sixth inning to overrun the Red Sox.
