KISTI launches first English journal on IT

The state-funded Korea Institute of Science and Technology Information has launched the first English-language journal of information science in Korea.

The quarterly Journal of Information Science Theory and Practice publishes outcomes of research on diverse theories of information science and their application. KISTI plans to increase its publication frequency in the years to come.

The institute held an event April 18 at its headquarters in Daejeon to celebrate the launch of the journal.

Co-editors-in-chief are professor Dong Geun Oh, dean of the Department of Information and Library Science at Keimyung University, and professor Gary Marchionini, dean of the School of Information and Library Science at the University of North Carolina, United States.


On the JISTaP editorial board are 30 prominent scholars from eight countries.

The first issue of the publication features articles by five eminent scholars of information science.

“JISTaP will develop as one of the most prestigious journals of information science in the world in a few years because it not only boasts an international-level editorial staff and follows the peer-review processes, but also can be searched at such global sites as Google Scholar and WorldWideScience. KISTI will share the experience it accumulates through the publication of JISTaP with other academic journal publishers in Korea to contribute to the globalization of domestic journals,” said JISTaP’s associate editor Dr. Honam Choi, who is the director of the KISTI Information Services Center,

KISTI will send copies of the inaugural issue of to major researchers and research organizations in Korea and abroad and later promote it at international conferences.
