Legendary rock ’n’ roll guitarist Slash, along with metal veterans Deftones will hit the stage at this year’s 2013 Metal Fest concert, to be held in the Olympic Hall at Olympic Park on May 9.

Saul Hudson, best known by his stage name Slash, is a British-American musician and songwriter who rose to rock ’n’ roll superstardom as the lead guitarist of Guns N’ Roses. Slash first joined Guns N’ Roses in 1985 after being approached by band leader Axel Rose and guitarist Izzy Stradlin. Two years later the band released its debut album, “Appetite for Destruction,” which became the best-selling debut album of all time in the U.S. as well as selling more than 28 million copies worldwide.

In 2002 Slash reunited with former bandmates Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, joining Dave Kushner and Scott Weiland to form Velvet Revolver, which went on to win a Grammy Award for the hit track “Slither.”

Slash later made his debut as a solo guitarist releasing two solo albums: Slash (2010) and Apocalyptic Love (2012). After his debut as a soloist, Rolling Stone Magazine placed him at No. 65 on the publication’s list of “The 100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time.”

Slated to perform after the legendary rock ’n’ roll guitarist are the five members of the alternative metal American band, Deftones. The band, formed in 1988, released its debut album “Adrenaline” in October 1995. Although the band’s first album was not deemed a success, the members continued to move forward with their music and released their second album “Around the Fur” two years later. The album, which went platinum, helped launch the band’s popularity. Deftones have since released five additional albums including “White Pony” in 2000. The third album’s lead single “Elite” landed the boys a Grammy Award for Best Metal Performance the following year.

The local rock band Yellow Monsters will perform as the opening act of this year’s Metal Fest starting at 6:30 p.m., with Slash taking the stage at 8 p.m. and Deftones at 9:40 p.m. Tickets to the show range in price from 110,000 won to 132,000 won.
