Christmas concerts in Seoul and Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, will aim to combine a festive feel with donations to a worthy cause.
The concerts at Itaewon’s Moon Night on Saturday and Bucheon’s Pub in the Park on Dec. 22 will raise money for Myungjin Children’s Welfare Center.
Each night will feature nine solo acts that organizers hope will create a relaxing, holiday atmosphere.
“We’re really trying to give the audience ― both foreigners and Koreans ― a real sense of Christmas, which is something that is sometimes hard to find and feel in Korea because the holiday just isn’t celebrated here the same way it is in the West,” said C.J. Koster-Allen, head of Seconds2Impact, which is organizing the event.
While the musicians are solo performers, there will be some collaborations between them. Koster-Allen said they had encouraged them to play traditional or seasonal songs, interpreting them in their own style.
“Being able to provide support for such a great cause like the Myungjin Children’s Welfare Center is a fantastic added bonus,” said Koster-Allen
He said that Coco Valladares, who is involved with Seconds2Impact and will be performing on both nights, had worked extensively with Myungjin Children’s Welfare Center.
He asked that people who come bring donations of essentials such as toilet paper and shampoo to give to the center.
In addition to Valladeres, performers at the “Christmas in Seoul” show include Jennifer Waescher, Tamara Kim and Nina Valladeres. The show starts at 6 p.m.
“Christmas in Bucheon” will feature JoshRoy, Sonya Carrasquillo, Tamara Kim, among others and starts at 8 p.m.
Entry is 5,000 won and proceeds will go to the children’s center.
Seconds2Impact is a group of artists, performers and others working to increase creative opportunities in Korea.
“New Year, we are going to be really pushing the creation of a well-connected community of artists, not only musicians and singers, and will be launching projects that will encourage and help artists to get themselves out there and be seen,” said Koster-Allen.
