Renault Samsung Motors’s flagship mid-size sedan, the SM5, was introduced in 1998 and has been one of the best-selling models in the segment here.
On Friday, the Korean unit of the France-based Renault Group unveiled the New SM5 Platinum, a facelift for the third generation 2010 model.
The new SM5 has fresh styling with a new chrome grille and a more voluminous bumper. The overall exterior represents the steady-seller car’s futuristic and dynamic makeover.
Especially, the newly-equipped LED headlamps boost the car’s luxurious and sophisticated characteristic as well as the driver’s visibility.

The carmaker also says the new SM5 features the most advanced driving performance based on its latest technologies.
The Blind Spot Warning System and the Tire Pressure Monitoring System are the first to be adopted by a mid-size sedan. The car’s digitalized dashboard displays realtime tire information.
The new infortainment system Smart Connect also supports smart functions of mobile devices within the car. And the attached navigation system can be updated at SK gas stations nationwide.
The Smart ECO Application, that is downloadable at smartphone app stores, allows the driver to check average driving speed and fuel consumption that affect the car’s fuel economy.
Equipped with the 2.0 CVTC II gasoline engine, the car offers the best fuel efficiency of 14.1 kilometers per liter within its segment in Korea.
“The New SM5 Platinum combines the new elegant design with the SM5’s reputation as a premium mid-size sedan based on its product quality and durability,” said RSM CEO Francois Provost.
“The new model will serve as a new stepping stone for another leap of Renault Samsung Motors.”
