Epik High’s chart-topping hit single “It’s Cold,” featuring Lee Hi. (YG Entertainment)
The hip-hop trio Epik High recently released their new single, “It’s Cold,” which instantly became an “all kill” track with the song topping all of the major music charts in Korea upon its release.
The ballad hip-hop track featuring newcomer Lee Hi, one of the “K-pop Star” finalists this year, reached the number one spot on the Bugs, Melon, Soribada, Daum, Mnet, Monkey3, Cyworld, Olleh and Naver real-time music charts just hours after it was released on Tuesday.
The single was pre-released to promote the group’s seventh album scheduled to be released on Oct. 19.
New to the YG family, this will be the group’s comeback after a nearly three-year hiatus with their last album, “Remixing the Human Soul,” being released in 2009.
“It’s Cold” is a song about having one’s heart turn to ice because of the heartache and pain caused by love.
“Spring doesn’t come anymore…It’s cold here, it’s so cold, my heart is so frozen that my lips crack…I’m cold as ice.”
Best known for their hit song “Fly,” Epik High band members Tablo, Mithra Jin and DJ Tukutz debuted in 2003 with their album “Map of the Human Soul.” Since then they have swept numerous awards including the Seoul Music Awards best album in 2008 and the 2009 Golden Disk Award for best hip-hop artist.
Lee, on the other hand, is set to release her debut single “1,2,3,4” on Oct. 29.
