S-Oil Corp. held its annual ceremony on Friday to deliver scholarships to the children of Korean firefighters killed in the line of duty.
With its “Guardians for Brave Firefighter” program, the company has supported injured or deceased firefighters and their families since 2006.
This year, the oil refinery and distributor company gave 3 million won ($2,650) each to 102 children to help them study in a stable academic environment.
S-Oil said that the scholarships apply to each individual and not household. As a result, 30 households of deceased firefighters had two or more beneficiaries.
“We hope that S-Oil’s love and care will be able serve as a small stepping stone for the children of firefighters who died on duty, so that they can grow up to lead the future,” said S-Oil CEO Nasser Al-Mahasher.
The CEO said that the company seeks to contribute to the community by continuing the guardian program for firefighters and their families.
