Lee Won-chang, head of the Korea Broadcast Advertising Corp. or KOBACO, was named the new CEO of the soon-to-be-inaugurated organization that will succeed KOBACO.

According to a revision approved by the National Assembly in February, the new KOBACO will be inaugurated on May 23.

KOBACO’s executive board approved the appointment after evaluating and recommending candidates following an open call for the position, according to the Korea Communications Commission.

The 69-year-old Lee is a graduate of Korea University, where he majored in political science and diplomacy.

Lee has worked as a reporter for the Munhwa Broadcasting Corp. and also served as the foreign news editor and editorial writer for the Kyunghang Shinmun daily.

From 2000 to 2004, he also served as a member of the 16th National Assembly for the ruling Saenuri Party’s predecessor, the Grand National Party.

An inauguration ceremony will be held on May 23. About 400 people, including current KCC chairman Lee Kye-cheol, are expected to attend.

Lee’s new three-year term as CEO will begin on May 23 and last through 2015.
