The Chung Mong-koo Foundation on Thursday delivered scholarships to 587 college students from underprivileged households following the recommendation of individual schools.

The students were picked from those studying basic science or culture and art as part of a program that aims at fostering talented people in those areas, the foundation said.

The award ceremony was held at Hyundai’s headquarters in Gye-dong, northern Seoul, Thursday, along with other cultural events.

The foundation, set up by Hyundai Motor chairman Chung, has provided financial support to students from disadvantaged families such as children of car accident victims and talented students.

Some 1,250 students are expected to benefit from the scholarship program this year.
