President Barack Obama's re-election campaign team opened a Twitter account Thursday for his wife Michelle, but it was aides rather than the first lady who sent the opening two tweets.
The @michelleobama account, which aims to capitalize on her rapport with some voters ahead of November elections, was described as "a new way for you to connect with First Lady Michelle Obama and the president's campaign."
Although the account, like the president's tweets, will be managed by aides, any messages that the first lady decides to send herself will be signed "-mo," according to one of the messages sent on Thursday.
The @michelleobama account had more than 54,000 followers within three hours of its launch. (AFP)
미셸 오바마 `트위터'로 남편 재선 캠페인
버락 오바마 미국 대통령의 부인 미셸 오바 마가 12일(현지시간) 남편의 재선 캠페인을 지원하기 위한 트위터 계정(@michelleob ama)을 개설했다.
미셸 오바마의 트위터 개설은 유권자들 사이에서 누리고 있는 그의 인기를 십분 살리기 위한 것이다.
그녀의 트위터 계정 관리를 대통령 부인 비서실인 이른바 '이스트 윙'이 아니라 오바마 대통령 재선 본부에서 관리하기로 한 것은 트위터 개설이 재선 캠페인 목적 임을 나타내고 있다.
이 트위터는 첫 트윗으로 "여러분들이 대통령 부인 미셸 오바마와 대통령 캠페인에 함께 하는 새로운 방법을 마련하기 위해 이 트위터를 개설한다"고 밝혔다.
트위터는 미셸 오바마가 모든 트윗글을 직접 올리지 못하고 관리자가 운영하지만, 그녀가 직접 올리는 글의 경우 트윗글 끄트머리에 그녀의 이름 머리글자를 따 '
-mo'라고 표기를 할 것이라고 귀띔했다.
미셸 오바마의 트위터는 이날 계정 개설 이후 3시간만에 무려 5만4천명의 팔로 우어가 등록할 정도로 인기를 모으고 있다.
