A “Style Your Sole” party in Korea has produced 60 pairs of shoes for kids in need as the first event in a campaign to kick-start regular charity work in Daegu.

The event was organized by Association for Teachers of English in Korea Gyeongbuk Volunteer officer Emily Cashell, who hopes to organize bi-monthly charity events along with new ATEK Gyeongbuk chair Joe Tremblay.

A volunteer shows shoes she decorated at the Daegu “Style Your Sole” event.

Participants at the event each bought a pair of children’s TOMS shoes, decorating 30 pairs to donate to children’s centers in Daegu. The footwear company also donates a pair of shoes to a child in need for every pair that is bought.

“The event went wonderfully,” Tremblay said.

“The centers in Daegu help care for children of single mothers, who face a lot of stigma in Korea.

“We hope to organize a lot more events like this one in future, and find worthwhile volunteer opportunities for people wanting to help out in Daegu.”
