A recent picture of Japan’s chief cabinet secretary Yukio Edano has brought sympathy from people online.
Two pictures of him, one before the 9.0 earthquake and tsunami hit Japan and the other after the quake show how much he has been struggling in the wake of the natural disaster and nuclear crisis. The second picture, taken at a televised briefing, shows his physical fatigue and the effects of the pressure.
According to news reports, he hasn’t slept in 109 hours because of his schedule, which has included televised briefings every two hours since Monday.
Bloomberg reported that Edano has raised his profile in the process. As the prime minister makes only one public appearance a day to provide comfort to his people, Edano handles an average of five briefings daily on the current situation.
The Japanese people are paying tribute to his effort, saying “Edano please get some sleep” or “Edano is an angel” on Twitter. Korean netizens impressed by his stamina said the photo shows just how serious the current situation in Japan is, with others expressing concern for his health.
