Rhee Hang-bock, vice president of the Korea Scout Association, was elected chairman of the World Scout Committee at the 39th World Scout Conference in Brazil, Jan. 13, the association said.
He is the first Korean chairman of the main executive body of the World Organization of the Scout Movement. His term is three years.

Rhee succeeds Rick Kronk of the U.S., who served as chairman since the conference in Jeju in 2008.
The committee represents about 32 million members in 161 countries, and consists of 21 board members.
The 56-year-old veteran scout was elected to the committee in 2008 and most recently served as vice chairman.
