Men taking care of 100-year-old mother

Two brothers Wang Shikuan, 76, and Wang Shixi, 73, have been taking care of their 100-year-old mother for more than 30 years in Zaozhuang city, East China's Shandong province, dedicating their time to their mother and foregoing marriage.

The two are lodged in a small bungalow with a remote relative and their blind mother. They have carried their blind mother every day to work in a field miles away for six years. "These two are good sons. They never complain, never shirk responsibility and always take good care of their mom though they live under the poverty line", a neighbor surnamed Zhang said.

Wang's family income is about 1,000 yuan ($150) per month while the medical care cost Wang's mother faces reaches 300 yuan ($45), adding to the burden the brothers face."We don't have money to spend on other women. We don't think women would want to get married with poor men like us, plus a blind mother," said one. "For us, mom is everything we live for, and it's enough," the other added.

한치 앞도 못 보는 100세 어머니 모시는 70대 효자들, ‘화제’

중국 산동성 좌오좡시에 30년 넘게 지극정성으로 100세 홀어머니를 모시고 사는 두 효자가 있어 화제가 되고 있다. 1월 6일 중국 차이나 데일리에 따르면, 시력을 상실한 어머니와 먼 친척과 함께 소형 방갈로에 거주 중인 76세의 왕 시쿠안씨와 73세의 왕시지 씨는 6년 전부터 집에서 멀리 떨어진 들판에 작업을 나갈 때도 하루도 거르지 않고 어머니를 모시고 함께 일터로 모시고 간다.

“가난에 허덕여 삶을 유지하기 힘든 상황임에도 불구하고, 이들은 전혀 불만의 기색을 품지 않고, 의무를 게을리 하지 않으며 홀어머니를 깍듯하게 모신다.”고 한 이웃주민이 밝혔듯이, 한 달 수입 약 1,000 위안 (약 17만원) 중 300위안 (5만원)을 어머니 진료비로 사용하면서 빠듯한 삶을 살지만 고질적인 가난도 그들의 효심을 억누르지 못했다.

일편단심 어머니만 바라봐 결혼을 꿈꾼 적이 없다는 왕씨 형제는 “가난에 허덕이면서 몸이 불편하신 어머니를 모시고 사는 우리를 보고 여성들은 우리에게 혼인을 요구하지 않을 것이다.” 고 형제 중 한 명이 언급했다. “어머니가 없으면 우리 형제도 없다. 더 이상 바라지 않는다.”고 다른 형제가 말했다.
