Yoo Chang-soon, former prime minister and ex-chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, died at the age of 92 yesterday.

He served as Bank of Korea governor, commerce minister and prime minister under the late former President Park Chung-hee, helping the authoritarian leader draw up a national economic development plan and lead the country’s rise from the ashes of the 1950-1953 Korean War.
In 1981 he was CEO of the Korea International Trade Association, and played a part in attracting the 1988 Olympic Games to Seoul, with then FKI chairman and late Hyundai Group chairman Chung Ju-yung. He also headed the Korea-U.S. Economic Cooperation Committee and the Republic of Korea National Red Cross.
Yoo was born in Anju, now North Korea, in 1918. He has five sons and one daughter.
