Elderly woman booked for ripping ballots

Cheongju Sangdang Police Station said Wednesday that it had booked a 67-year-old woman without detention for violating the Public Official Election Act.

She is accused of ripping three ballot papers at a polling station in Yongam-dong, Cheongju, North Chungcheong Province, around 5:50 p.m. Wednesday.

She had been drunk, according to the National Election Commission.

Police said the woman claimed that she tore the ballots because there was “no one to vote for.”
