The upcoming trial for former President Lee Myung-bak appears to be attracting fewer citizens than that of ousted President Park Geun-hye.
Forty-five people entered their names at the Seoul Bankruptcy Court in Seocho-gu, southern Seoul, on Wednesday to secure seats for ex-President Lee’s first trial, scheduled for May 23.

Out of a total of 150 seats in the courtroom, 68 have been allocated to citizens. As there were fewer applicants than the number of available seats, all the applicants were granted seats without a draw being held.
Prior to the first trial of former President Park Geun-hye in May 2017, 525 people applied for a chance to witness the trial in person, more than seven times the number of available seats.
The trial for Lee on May 23 will be held at the Seoul Central District Court. The exact time of the trial has yet to be announced.
