Samsung Electronics Co. showcased two new image sensors with reduced sizes and improved performance Wednesday to meet rising demand for bezel-less smarpthones.
The South Korean tech giant said the 12-megapixel ISOCELL Fast 2L9 and the 24-megapixel ISCOCELL Slim 2X7 will provide solutions to the dilemma in which the size of image sensors must increase to apply higher resolution, while demand for simpler smartphone design restricts space.

Image sensors are chips that change visual imformation gathered through lenses into digital signals to be displayed on screen. Samsung Electronics currently has four sub-brands, namely Fast, Slim, Bright and Dual under its ISCOCELL brand, which was launched in June.
The ISOCELL Fast 2L9 is equipped with the dual-pixel technology that enables faster and more accurate focusing. It has an out-focusing feature, which blurs the background for a clear view of the subject, and uses just one image sensor. Its pixels are 1.28 micrometer across.
The ISCOCELL Slim 2X7 is capable of adjusting to different environments, taking brighter photos in the dark at 6-megapixels and clearer photos in bright light at 24-megapixels. It comes with 0.9 micrometer pixels.
Samsung Electronics said the two image sensors can be applied to the cameras on both sides of smartphones. (Yonhap)
